The ECYU's prime objective is to save, maintain and promote the European yachting heritage. The key to this objective is to establish contacts, friendly relations and effective exchange of knowledge and information between all like-minded European clubs or associations. The ECYU will act as a union for sovereign national clubs and not interfere with their policy or activity.

The ECYU welcomes all classic yacht clubs of traditional yachts that have been built for, or are used for leisure, including motor and steam yachts as well as the sailing classes. Museums, yacht yards as well as clubs from countries outside Europe are welcome to join as associated members.
