The Imperial and Royal Yacht Squadron was founded by officers of the Imperial and Royal Austrian Navy under the highest protection of his Imperial and Royal Apostolic Majesty, Emperor and King Franz Josef I. The seat of the club was at PULA(on the Adriatic coast, formerly under Austria) and the club was founded in August 1891.

Exactly one hundred years after the first foundation, sailing enthusiasts refounded the club at the Union Yacht Club Attersee (upper Austria) as a traditional sailing club, during a gathering on 6 Aug. 1991. Dr. Stefan Frauendorfer and Dr. Roman Hummelt, commodore and vice-cpommodre of the Bavararian Classic Yacht Club acted as godfathers to our new organisation.

The 12 founding members formed the first executive committee. Our main ourpose is to look after and maintain traditional yachts and their use in races. Wee have events throughout the season, with the highlightr being the International Week at the first part of August (with sailor ball and other social activities, including sightseeing. Today we have about 50 members who all try to kkeep up the old yachting traditions. Most of our members have tyheir own boats in the Salzkammergut at the various lakes. We have a lot of interesting and special yachts:DRAGONS, STAR, 5.5 metres, J and Z dinghies, etc.
