The NHFT operates a fleet of 13 mahogany gaff-rigged
1930's gaff-rigged cruising yachts and five gaff-rigged half-decked
wooden ex-racing yachts for hire, from their own traditional boatyard
at Stalham, on the famous Norfolk Broads on England's east coast.
NHFT purchased Hunters Yard from Norfolk County Council in 1995, to
ensure that the yard and the fleet of 1930's mahogany yachts remained
intact. With this acheived, and the operation of the yard going from
strength to strength, the Trust initiated an endowment policy to provide
subsidies to youth groups - schools, scout and guide gropus, etc.- enabling
young people to enjoy and benefit from sailing the beautiful Hunter
yachts on the Norfolk Broads.
Over the years, more and more people are enjoying the qualities of these
traditional craftsman-built yachts; private parties are encouraged to
hire the yachts alongside the youth groups.
The income from private hirings avoids the necessity of having to borrow
money from banks; the money we raise from hiring our yachts enables
us to maintain them in near perfect condition.
Our website features all the information from our brochure, as well
as video clips, games and an online shop. We also have a strong Friends
organisation which offers a regular newsletter and many other benefits.
